The Stroke Association Achieves Investors In People Status, UK

March 30, 2017

The Stroke Association has been awarded the coveted Investors in People Standard. The charity joins over 30,000 ambitious organisations in the UK to achieve this accreditation. It recognises an organisation's commitment to improving its performance through the development of its people.

Jon Barrick, Chief Executive of The Stroke Association said,

"We're delighted to achieve the Investors in People Standard and it rewards all the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers.

"The Stroke Association has doubled in size in the last five years and we are an extremely ambitious organisation. The Investors in People framework will allow us to improve our performance even further. If we can develop our staff and volunteers we'll move even closer to our vision of a world where there are fewer strokes and for all those touched by stroke to get the help they need."

Over 80 staff members and volunteers were interviewed by Investors in People to help them assess the organisation. The charity was commended for surpassing the standard in eight areas including top managers making sure the organisation has a clear set of core values, ensuring the strategy of the charity is developed through the involvement of all and using key performance indicators.

Chris Humphries, Chief Executive of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, which has strategic responsibility for Investors in People, said:

"Congratulations to The Stroke Association on achieving the Investors in People Standard. In the current economic climate, it's more important than ever that organisations are able to get the best out of their people.

"The Stroke Association is a great example of how charities can inspire leaders, managers and employees at all levels to build their skills, improve their performance and achieve their potential."

Recent research, conducted by the Centre for Business Performance at Cranfield School of Management, showed that working with Investors in People increases profitability by enhancing managerial skills and increasing the performance of managers.

It also inspires a high-performance management culture and an effective learning environment, both of which help to improve performance.
